Description
This Éguiner-François Baron portrait engraving dates from 1601 and depicts the French Renaissance jurist and humanist born in Kerlouan in Finistère, Brittany.
Also known as Eguinaire Baron and by the Latin name Eguinarius Baro, he lived from approximately 1495 to 1550. He taught law at Angers, Poitiers and Bourges and belongs to the history of French Renaissance legal humanism.
The miniature portrait shows Baron in profile facing left, wearing a distinctive cap and a high-collared garment. Fine hatching describes his facial features, long beard and clothing within a remarkably small image.
