Description

Nimes Gard Maison Carree print in sepia tones, dated circa 1942.

This architectural print depicts the Maison Carree in Nimes, southern France. The three-quarter view reveals the temple’s long colonnade and imposing front portico, with carefully rendered capitals, cornices and sculptural details.

Architectural fragments occupy the foreground, lending an archaeological character to the scene. Strong contrasts between illuminated stonework and deep shadows emphasise the columns and the depth of the portico. A cloud-filled sky completes the composition.

The warm sepia colouring makes this an appealing decorative image for collectors of French architectural views and Roman monuments.

A visible plate mark surrounds the composition, with margins extending beyond it. A printed inscription appears at the lower right; no handwritten signature is claimed.
