Rambouillet Yvelines France Historic Castle View by Pierre Dugelay Ink Drawing

Description

Rambouillet castle drawing signed Pierre Dugelay

This ink drawing on paper bears the signature Pierre Dugelay and the inscription “Château de Rambouillet” at the lower right. It is offered as a work dating from around 1930.

The vertical composition presents a historic interpretation of the castle as a fortified residence. Large rounded towers dominate the scene beneath steep roofs and decorative dormer windows. Smaller turrets and adjoining buildings create a layered architectural silhouette.

Fine pen strokes describe the masonry and roof surfaces while denser cross-hatching develops the shadows. Trees frame the lower part of the composition and reflections animate the water in the foreground. The contrast between the detailed architecture and the freely drawn foliage gives the work its distinctive graphic character.

The identification of Rambouillet is based on the inscription on the drawing. This is a historic interpretation rather than a documentary view of the castle as it appeared around 1930. The proposed date relates to the execution of the drawing.
