Description
Buti Italy Town Hall is the focal point of this original 1984 drypoint by Viviano Viviani, signed in pencil and numbered 10/50. Its engraved title reads “Buti Via XX Settembre e Palazzo Comunale”.
The composition follows a narrow street towards the municipal building. The words “Palazzo Comunale” appear across its façade, above shuttered windows and a small balcony. An arched doorway with a substantial stone surround anchors the scene, while a domed bell tower rises above the neighbouring rooftops.
The close viewpoint gives the print a strong sense of depth. Tall buildings frame the street, leading the eye towards the town hall and the architectural details beyond. Fine hatching describes the wall surfaces, rooflines and shadows, while warm brown ink gives the impression its attractive sepia character.
This original drypoint on copper belongs to the series handprinted on a Dutch press using handmade rag paper from Cartiera Magnani in Pescia. The textured sheet retains generous margins around the image.
The artist’s name and the abbreviated date “84” appear within the plate. A separate pencil signature and edition number 10/50 are present in the lower margin.
