Description

Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace — La Petite France, a print by Leopold Robin (1877–1939), offered as dating from circa 1930.

The composition depicts a waterway bordered by historic buildings, with small boats in the foreground and a bridge further along the view. Strasbourg Cathedral rises above the rooftops in the distance. Fine engraved lines describe the architecture, the boats and the reflections on the water.

The print bears the engraved title “Strasbourg La Petite France” and L. Robin’s signature within the plate. A printed inscription in the lower margin states that the image was engraved on copper and printed in intaglio on a hand-operated press.

This small architectural view would suit a collection of Alsatian subjects, French town views or early twentieth-century prints.
