Description
Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, Alsace — Cour du Corbeau, an etching by Leopold Robin (1877–1939), dating from circa 1930.
This Strasbourg etching depicts the picturesque Cour du Corbeau, with its timber-framed buildings, steep roofs and covered connecting gallery. The cobbled foreground leads the eye towards the passage at the back of the courtyard.
Fine linework and closely worked hatching describe the timber structure, windows and roof tiles. Contrasts between light and shadow give depth to this intimate architectural view.
The engraved title “Strasbourg La Cour du Corbeau” appears beneath the scene. The composition bears the signature L. Robin at the lower right, with an additional pencil signature in the lower margin. A clearly visible plate mark surrounds the image.
