Description
Queen Alexandra 1902 coronation portrait in an antique silver photographic print on its original mount embossed Rotary Photographic Co Ltd London. Alexandra of Denmark (1844–1925) is shown as Queen of the United Kingdom and Empress of India wearing her ceremonial robes and crown.
The portrait highlights the richness of her coronation attire. An ermine mantle frames her figure while layered necklaces, jewellery, a sash and insignia fill the composition with detail. The dark background brings the face and crown into prominence and provides a strong contrast with the lighter robes.
The vertical composition offers a close view of the royal costume. The crown, elaborate hairstyle and carefully arranged jewellery give the portrait a formal character characteristic of ceremonial royal imagery.
The photograph retains its original brown card mount with a recessed border surrounding the image. The lower edge bears the embossed wording “ROTARY PHOTOGRAPHIC Co LTD” and “LONDON E.C.” These marks identify the photographic publisher and complement the presentation of the print.
This Queen Alexandra photograph will appeal to collectors of British royalty, coronation memorabilia and early twentieth-century photography. The detailed costume also makes it an attractive piece for those interested in royal jewellery and ceremonial dress.
