Description

Provence olive harvest drypoint created by Eugène Burnand in 1884, depicting workers gathering olives in a traditional grove in southern France.

Several olive pickers are shown among the branches of an old tree, reached by a ladder resting against its trunk. Rows of olive trees extend into the background, while a small flight of birds animates the open sky. Burnand’s precise yet lively linework captures both the character of the ancient trees and the seasonal activity of the harvest.
