This Oran Algeria antique engraving presents a detailed nineteenth-century view of the Mediterranean harbour and fortified city.

Seen from the shoreline, the composition features traditional sailing boats and small rowing craft in the foreground. Several figures animate the waterfront, while the buildings, towers and fortifications of Oran rise above the bay in the background.

The print bears the inscriptions “Nyon del. et sc.” and “Imp. Gilquin et Dupain, rue de la Calandre 19, Paris.” The printed title beneath the image reads “ORAN (Afrique).”

This original steel engraving is recorded as having been published in 1858.
