Description
After Aime Perret, this antique oil painting on canvas reproduces the composition known as L’Aveu dans les blés, depicting a young couple sharing a quiet moment beside a wheat field. This French painted copy is thought to date from the late 19th or early 20th century.
The young man leans towards his companion as she sits with one hand raised to her face. Their gestures suggest a declaration of affection, giving the scene its intimate, narrative character. The woman’s distinctive dark headdress and the couple’s traditional clothing evoke the rural culture of Bresse.
Golden wheat fills the middle ground, while harvested sheaves and cultivated fields extend towards the distant horizon. A dark hat rests in the grass beside the couple, and red poppies provide small accents of colour. The warm harvest tones contrast with the green foreground and the blue-violet of the woman’s dress.
This oil painting after Aime Perret combines a rural landscape with a courtship scene. Its horizontal format and restrained palette make it an appealing decorative subject for collectors interested in French country life, regional costume and traditional genre painting.
An inscription referring to Perret and a partly legible signature appear at the lower right. The painter responsible for this copy has not been identified. A supplier’s stamp mentioning Nantes is visible on the wooden stretcher.
