Description

This Ischgl acrylic painting by E. Suzanne depicts an Austrian Alpine village beneath dramatic mountain peaks. Dating from the late twentieth century, the work is painted on a wooden panel and signed at the lower right. A handwritten label on the reverse reads “Ischgl (Autriche)”, identifying the location represented.

The vertical composition brings together a village church, traditional houses, wooded slopes and rugged mountains. A country lane occupies the foreground, bordered by a wooden fence that leads the eye towards the buildings. This diagonal arrangement gives the scene depth and creates a natural route through the landscape.

The village forms the centre of the painting. Houses overlap across the hillside, their pale walls contrasting with dark wooden balconies and shaded façades. Roofs painted in blue grey, warm red and terracotta provide a lively sequence of colours. The individual buildings remain clearly distinguishable while forming a closely connected village scene.

A slender church spire rises above the rooftops. Its light-coloured tower stands against the darker trees, making it one of the principal focal points. The surrounding houses are arranged at different heights, reinforcing the impression of a settlement shaped by the mountain terrain.

Behind the village, open grassy slopes meet dense woodland. The artist uses changes in colour and the direction of the painted strokes to separate the meadows from the forests. Dark greens dominate the nearer trees, while cooler blue and green passages suggest the wooded slopes farther away.

The mountains occupy much of the upper composition. Their sharply defined peaks and pale rocky faces contrast with the rounded forms of the trees below. Grey, mauve and cream tones describe the rock surfaces, with lighter passages suggesting sunlight and traces of snow. Above them, a blue sky crossed by pale clouds completes the scene.

The painted surface has a visible texture. Small strokes build up the foliage, while broader marks describe the road and mountain faces. These variations give the wooden panel an animated surface that can be appreciated both from a distance and at close range.

Warm and cool colours play an important role in this Ischgl acrylic painting. The ochre path and reddish roofs bring warmth to the foreground and village. Cooler tones in the woodland, distant mountains and sky create a sense of space beyond the buildings. The pale church tower links these different areas of the composition.

The foreground fence is another carefully observed feature. Its posts and horizontal rails follow the slope beside the path, separating the road from the houses below. Alongside the textured grass and scattered vegetation, it gives the viewer a clear sense of position overlooking the village.

The work is signed E. Suzanne at the lower right. No additional biographical attribution is supplied for the artist. The late twentieth-century dating refers to the painting itself; the scene presents the village through a traditional landscape composition rather than documenting a precisely dated moment.

The wooden support measures 36 cm in height and 26.5 cm in width. The painting is presented without a frame. Its upright format allows the artist to include both the nearby path and the high mountain skyline within a relatively compact panel.

The reverse shows the wood surface and the handwritten location label. Marks and scratches are visible on the back, together with minor wear around the edges. The painted face has an attractive overall appearance in the supplied photographs. Please examine all images for the surface texture, signature, panel edges and condition.

This signed Alpine landscape would suit a collection of European village views or mountain paintings. Its combination of traditional buildings, a prominent church spire and a richly coloured mountain setting also gives it a strong decorative appeal. The label on the reverse adds a useful connection between the painted scene and Ischgl in Austria.
