Villefranche-sur-Mer, Alpes-Maritimes — battleships at anchor in the bay, an antique ink and wash drawing with white highlights, tentatively dated circa 1890–1910.

This panoramic coastal scene combines naval detail with everyday activity along the shore. Two figures stand among the foreground rocks, while a large battleship occupies the left-hand side of the composition. Further warships appear in the distance, and buildings rise above the waterfront on the right.

Fine drawing describes the main vessel’s masts, superstructure and guns. Washes create depth in the buildings and rocky shoreline, while touches of white suggest light reflected on the water.

The work offers an appealing subject for collectors of French Riviera views, maritime drawings and naval history. The individual vessels have not been identified.
