Description

Description longue — anglais

Joly colour aquatint titled “La Route au bord du lac”, depicting a peaceful village beside the water. Tentatively dated to the first half of the twentieth century.

A winding earth road leads towards rural houses with steep roofs. A small church tower stands to the left, near a boat resting along the bank. Tall trees frame the scene, with low hills stretching across the horizon.

Warm ochre and brown tones in the road and buildings contrast with green foliage and pale blue-green water. Reflections and carefully drawn architectural details enrich this intimate countryside view.

The lower margin bears the handwritten title “La Route au bord du lac”, the inscription “No. 10”, and Joly’s pencil signature at the lower right. The inscription does not establish the total edition size. The artist’s first name has not been established.

The village and lake have not been identified. The work is therefore offered as a rural lakeside landscape without a specific geographical attribution.
