Description
Touët-sur-Var Touët-de-Beuil 1864 Antique Lithograph Alpes-Maritimes France
Description longue en anglais
Touët-sur-Var — historically known as Touët-de-Beuil — depicted in an antique lithograph dated 1864. This view presents the hillside village near Puget-Théniers in the Alpes-Maritimes region of southern France.
The composition brings together a steep path, a stone bridge and a mountain stream. These elements guide the eye from the foreground towards the village, where buildings rise in tiers against the rugged slopes. A waterfall adds movement to the scene and emphasises the close relationship between the settlement and its mountainous surroundings.
The contrast between the stone architecture and the abrupt contours of the landscape gives this view its distinctive character. The bridge and winding approach provide depth, while the tightly grouped buildings draw attention to the way the village follows the terrain.
This nineteenth-century lithograph offers a picturesque view of the countryside inland from Nice. It combines architectural detail with a dramatic mountain setting, making it appealing to collectors of French topographical prints and historic village views.
The old place name Touët-de-Beuil also adds documentary interest, connecting the print with the earlier identity of present-day Touët-sur-Var. The subject brings together the history of the Alpes-Maritimes, rural architecture, bridges and Alpine landscapes.
