Description
Chateau de Miolans in Savoie France in an original nineteenth-century lithograph dating from circa 1864 based on a composition by Félix Benoist.
This view presents the fortress perched on a rocky promontory above a broad Alpine valley. Its towers and fortified walls stand prominently against the surrounding mountains. The vertical composition emphasises the height of the site and the dramatic relationship between the castle and the landscape below.
A winding path leads the eye towards the buildings, connecting the rocky foreground with the architecture. Beyond the fortress, the valley opens into cultivated land and distant mountain ranges. The contrast between the detailed foreground and the softer outlines of the background gives the scene a strong sense of depth.
The lithograph combines architectural interest with the appeal of an Alpine landscape. Stone walls, uneven ground and vegetation provide varied textures, while the distant scenery creates an impression of space. Rather than isolating the castle, the composition places it within the mountainous setting that defines its character.
Located near Saint-Pierre-d’Albigny, Chateau de Miolans is the central subject of this view of Savoie. The print will appeal to collectors interested in French castles, regional topography, Alpine scenery and nineteenth-century lithography.
Printed on fine wove paper, the sheet measures 47.5 × 32.5 cm, with an image measuring 30.3 × 23 cm. Its vertical format lends itself particularly well to framing.
