Description
Référence 5400-19R788
This La Roche lithograph presents a detailed view of the Haute-Savoie town in France in 1864, set against an expansive Alpine landscape. The printed credits name Félix Benoist as the draughtsman, Eugène Cicéri as the lithographer and J. Gaildrau for the figures.
The town occupies the left side of the composition, its closely grouped houses rising towards a church spire and a prominent tower. A lively watercourse runs below the buildings and enclosed gardens, creating depth between the town and the rocky foreground.
A winding road leads into the scene from the lower edge. An animal-drawn cart, travellers and a seated figure bring a human presence to the landscape. These details evoke everyday journeys and rural activity in nineteenth-century Savoy.
Mountains stretch across the background, contrasting with the carefully rendered roofs, walls and gardens. Subtle grey shading and warm tones give the print an atmospheric quality while preserving the architectural detail.
The caption beneath the image identifies the subject as La Roche near Bonneville in Haute-Savoie, now known as La Roche-sur-Foron. This original period lithograph would appeal to collectors of French Alpine views, Savoyard heritage and nineteenth-century topographical prints.
