Description
Thones Haute Savoie France 1864 Alpine Panorama Fier Valley Lithograph
Description longue WooCommerce en anglais
This Thones lithograph depicts the town and the Fier Valley in Haute-Savoie France in 1864, following a drawing by Félix Benoist.
The panoramic composition opens onto a broad valley enclosed by mountain ridges. Buildings, roads and cultivated land give scale to the landscape, while small figures bring life to the foreground and the winding route on the right.
A house framed by vegetation occupies the left foreground. Across the scene, a building stands on higher ground above the road. These architectural details lead the eye towards the town and the successive mountain slopes in the distance.
Fine lines describe the rocky ground, trees and distant buildings. Subtle shading and warm tones distinguish the different planes, creating an atmospheric view of the French Alps. The composition combines the interest of a historical town view with the decorative appeal of a mountain landscape.
The printed caption beneath the image identifies Thônes and the Fier Valley. This period lithograph would suit collectors of Savoyard heritage, French topographical prints and nineteenth-century Alpine scenery.
The generous surrounding margins provide space for a suitable mount when framing.
